IMPACT DAMAGE TESTING MACHINE

NGV-CYL-JA12

ISO 11439 Statement

One or more finished cylinders shall be drop tested at ambient temperature without internal pressurization or attached valves. The surface on to which the cylinders are dropped shall be a smooth, horizontal concrete pad or flooring. One cylinder shall be dropped in a horizontal position with the bottom 1,8 m above the surface on to which it is dropped. One cylinder shall be dropped vertically on each end at a sufficient height above the floor or pad so that the potential energy is
488 J, but in no case shall the height of the lower end be greater than 1,8 m. One cylinder shall be dropped at a 45° angle on to a dome, from a height such that the centre of gravity is at 1,8 m; however, if the lower end is closer to the ground than 0,6 m, the drop angle shall be changed to maintain  minimum height of 0,6 m and a centre of gravity of 1,8 m.

Following the drop impact, the cylinders shall then be pressure cycled between 20 bar and 260 bar at ambient temperature, initially for 3 000 cycles, then followed by an additional 12 000 cycles.

The cylinder shall not leak or rupture within the first 3000 cycles, but may fail by leakage during the further 12 000 cycles. All cylinders which complete this test shall be destroyed.

DESCRIPTION OF MACHINE

The jib crane is used to lift the test cylinder to the required height. Then remote release mechanism will release the cylinder to floor by the operator command.  The cable fixture
is fixed to the ends of the cylinder for lifting. The jib crane has access area of about 6 m diameter circular area.  So the lifting and dropping position can be moved around this area.

Remote Release Mechanism

ACID ENVIRONMENT TESTING MACHINE

NGV-CYL-JA10

ISO 11439 Statement
On  a  finished  cylinder  the  following  test  procedure shall be applied:
a)         Expose  a  150  mm  diameter  area  on  the cylinder surface for 100 h to a 30 % sulfuric acid solution (battery acid with a specific gravity of 1,219) whilst the cylinder is hydrostatically pressurized to 260 bar;
b) Pressurize the cylinder to burst in accordance with the procedure defined in A.12.
The burst pressure shall exceed 85 % of the minimum design burst pressure.

DESCRIPTION OF MACHINE

The test cylinders are placed in the bath.
Then they are exposed to a 30 % sulfuric acid solution with a specific gravity of 1,219, over a 150  mm diameter area on the cylinder surface for 100 h to whilst the cylinder is hydrostatically pressurized to 260 bar.  The exposure pond of 150 mm diameter is made by a soft rubber compound and the glass wool soaked with the above required acid solution is put inside the pond.

SPECIFICATION

1.     The machine can be used to test the CNG cylinders according to ISO11439 Annex A (normative) Test methods and criteria A.14. Acid environment test.
2.     The machine can be used to test the CNG cylinder of size: diameter 406 mm and length 1,400 mm.
3.     A Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) tank can accommodate 4 CNG cylinders.
4.     The chemical resistant thick epoxy paint is applied on inside tank surfaces.
5.     The tank inter dimensions are 2.0 m length x 2.0 m width x 0.6 m depth.
6.     Inside the tank, the cylinders are supported by strong stainless steel supports which hold the cylinder in position firmly.
7.     The machine can measure and control the pressure of the test cylinders during test.
8.     The control station
Dimensions             : 1000 x 980 x 1500 mm.
Max. water pressure: 1034 bar
Test pressure          : 260 bar
Capacity                 : 0 – 4.5 GPM
Material                   : Plunger: 440 CSS; Body: SS 303; Seal: UMHWPE
9.     A pail of chemicals and soft rubber compound are supplied for testing 50 cylinders according to ISO11439 Annex A (normative) Test methods and criteria A.14. Acid environment test.
